Sr Research Scientist I, Bioinformatics – Grade 30

Specific responsibilities:

The Department of Clinical Bioinformatics at Gilead is seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatics Scientist to lead implementation and automation of data analysis pipelines and analysis of genomic and biomarker data collected from patient subjects enrolled in Gilead’s clinical trials with focus on Oncology. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment to support clinical development programs or translation of clinical findings. In addition, the candidate will contribute to presentation and publication of clinical biomarker findings either as a peer reviewed publication or as part of new drug applications/filings submitted to regulatory agencies.

Essential Functions:

Develop methods/software, analysis pipelines, and applications to make biomarker results and findings available to research and development groups.

Conduct biomarker analyses involving data from patient samples to support patient stratification and biomarker selection for Gilead’s clinical development programs.

Initiate and manage both internal and external collaborations.

Manage various data analytical systems and ensure pipeline validation and regulatory compliance.

Coach and develop junior scientists and staffs within the team.

Knowledge, Experience, and Skills:

• PhD in statistics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience with statistical analysis using R and Bioconductor
• Proficient in at least one of following programming languages: R, Python, C/C++, and Shell in a Linux environment.
• Experience with cloud computing (e.g. AWS), version control, and docker containers highly desired
• Outstanding presentation and communication skills that foster collaboration and teamwork
