This is NOT a traditional Software Engineering role. It involves writing complex, science-related interfaces, tools, and workflows, but generally does not include scientific work such as method development, validation, or data analysis. This role presents an excellent opportunity for someone looking to transition from research science into full-time professional software development while still leveraging a scientific background Your primary responsibilities will be to provide core computational/application development and technical (programming/pipeline development) functions supporting a range of genomics-based (e.g. next generation) testing services. You will liaise closely with management and the bioinformatics and software engineering/IT teams and end users (including support staff) to understand needs and requirements to aid in software development. You will be expected to lead by example and work collaboratively to advance the application of NGS in the field of biosafety testing.Who You Are: Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in information technologies, computer science/programming with 2+ years’ work experience – OR – Bachelor’s degree in information technologies, computer science/programming with 5+ years’ work experience Preferred Qualifications: Developing, maintaining apps written in Python/Perl. Experience in a Researching environment Experience in software development preferably in a Linux environment. Experience in progressive web app development with at least one modern JavaScript framework (e.g., Angular, React, Vue) Understanding of web design principles and best practices with solid understanding of information architecture, navigation, and usability principles Experience with object-oriented design, template engines for creating responsive UI design using HTML5 and CSS3, Experience with Node JS including npm, JavaScript (including ES6/ES2015), Rest APIs(Express.js or similar) and build tools like eslint, Babel, webpack or similar. Experience with Unit testing (e.g., Jest or similar) and Automated web app testing (e.g., Selenium or similar) Proficiency in using Linux command line.
