Roche hiring Head of Reagents Bioinformatics, Molecular Lab Applications in Pleasanton, California, United States

As the Head of Reagent Bioinformatics in the Molecular Lab Applications chapter you will play a key role in advancing Roche’s class leading portfolio of sequencing reagents across sample preparation, library preparation, and target enrichment. Working in close partnership with wet lab, software, and commercial colleagues, you will build a suite of reagents products on multiple sequencing technologies that will be used as a platform for Roche’s IVD and RUO tests, translational research, and pharma services. In this critical role, you will influence and execute on Roche’s sequencing reagent roadmap, and set scientific strategy for reagent Bioinformatics.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage the Reagent Bioinformatics, Molecular Lab Applications team, setting bioinformatics scientific strategy for multiple reagent development efforts across Next Generation Sequencing including sample preparation, library preparation, target enrichment, and lab automation

  • Serve as Bioinformatics subject matter expert for scientific, technical and operational aspects of reagent workflow development 

  • Define Bioinformatics roadmap that aligns with short and long term goals of sequencing reagent portfolio

  • Partner with web lab and commercial colleagues to define product specifications, set development goals, design studies, analyze data, and provide recommendations for product development 

  • Working with other Bioinformatics and software teams to deploy customer facing data analysis solutions in primary and secondary analysis that use a combination of internally and externally developed tools

  • Build and maintain automated data analysis pipelines used by internal R&D teams

  • Interface with key customers to provide technical support and collect product feedback

  • Champion continuous process improvement to iteratively refine product development processes, product quality, and lab operations

  • Provide scientific support and analysis tools used by customer support and reagent manufacturing

  • Mentor a team of bioinformatics data scientists and engineers; provide staff with coaching, opportunities to develop skills, provide constructive and timely feedback on performance and progress toward goals and expectations

Qualifications

  • 10 years relevant experience including 6+ years experience in a supervisory role particularly interdisciplinary bioinformatics teams

  • Proven track record of developing products that combine genomics, next generation sequencing, molecular biology, statistics, and bioinformatic algorithms

  • Deep expertise in statistical analysis, Bioinformatics algorithms (variant calling and QC methods), pipeline engineering, and product development

  • Extensive understanding of sequencing reagents, platforms, analysis solutions, automation platforms used in clinical genomics

  • Demonstrated experience working in multi-disciplinary teams delivering highly complex Bioinformatics products 

  • Ability to create and present plans, roadmaps, and data analysis results in a clear and concise manner to audiences from different professional backgrounds

  • Demonstrated ability to establish, communicate, and execute against scientific strategy for complex biotech products

  • Strong data analysis skills using R, Python, or other modern data analysis language

  • Committed to scientific rigor and history of leading innovative science teams

  • Thrive in complex organization settings. Able to influence others in a matrixed environment. Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and organizational skills with ability to incorporate feedback in a professional manner
