Bioinformatics ScientistOverall summary:The position will independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute on Environmental Health Sciences.Deliverables:Work products and documents related to designing experiments; analyze and interpret the biological data; prepare and present the results based on the scientific objectives; collaborate with and support scientists to analyze high throughput sequencing data. – Ad-HocWork products and documents related to integrating analysis of multi-data types generated internally and the use of publicly available datasets; write data analysis sections of manuscripts; prepare publication quality figures; deposit data to external repositories that meet publication requirements. – Ad-HocWork products and documents related to developing and maintaining custom software and pipelines; evaluate and utilize commercial and open source software as required by research projects. – Ad-HocWork products and documents related to establishing reproducible data analysis pipelines and standard operating procedures; provide detailed documentations for methodologies so they can be reproduced and applied to similar studies; provide ad hoc trainings and hands-on workshops on the use of bioinformatics tools. – Ad-HocWork products and documents related to participating in group meetings; present findings; – Ad-HocWork products and documents related to managing branch projects, epidemiologic study implementation, and data collection; documents related to procurement lifecycle, execution of contracts, and budgeting processes. – DailyWork products and documents related to preparing data summaries, manuscripts, professional presentations and patient educational materials; edit written documents; organize, attend and participate in multidisciplinary research team meetings and functions. – DailyWork details:Provides programming and troubleshooting support to the Federal Government in the dissemination of research data. Generate and optimize programs and scripts for the analysis of data; create programs and algorithms and develop computational infrastructure resources for organizing and parsing data from large and complex data Serve as bioinformatics expert and coordinate with teams of biologists to conduct experimental queries and or perform portions of studies using complex procedures and techniques common to modern bioinformaticsCoordinate building bioinformatics infrastructure to ensure easy and meaningful scientific analysis and interpretation of dataProvide broad-based programming and analytic support for a wide variety of bioinformatic and research projectsInstall, troubleshoot and run open-source and commercial scientific software on platformsPerforms computations on research data analysis. Provide training in and technical support including product updates and version control for programs, algorithms, archives, and pipelines generated during the course of this workInstruct staff in computational analysis of dataProvide ad hoc trainings and hands-on workshops on the use of bioinformatics toolsProvide training of students, new investigators, and other laboratory personnel in the use of techniques, procedures and equipment to complete the objectives of the laboratoryInitiates interdisciplinary collaborations with other research centers.
