The Rockefeller University Hospital is funded by the National Institutes of Health and has 20 patient beds for clinical research. The Hospital provides researchers with an opportunity to conduct clinical studies, and offers both normal volunteers and people with diseases under study the opportunity to stay in the hospital and help to contribute to important advances in science. The Hospital has an inpatient unit as well as an outpatient center where prospective patients are screened and many outpatient studies are conducted. The Hospital is staffed 24 hours a day with professional nurses and has nutritional research, social work, art and recreation departments, and a radiology suite as well as its own research pharmacy. Detailed Description

The Director Research Bioinformatics will lead a team of bioinformatics professionals as well as be responsible for the overall management of all bioinformatics resources within The Rockefeller University CCTS. The Director will be responsible for providing consultation and training to investigators conducting clinical and translational research on experiment design, data interpretation, and data sharing on all bioinformatics platforms, including microarray, SNP array, RNAseq, scRNAseq and CHIPseq. The Director will oversee the development of data analysis workflows and customized bioinformatics tools and will support open source and proprietary bioinformatics software programs. The Director will lead new developments and ongoing support of ontology-backed phenotyping systems and integration of phenotypic data into workflow system. As part of the CCTS initiative in scientific Rigor, Reproducibility, and Reporting (R3), the Director will have a lead role in assisting investigators in identifying appropriate data repositories and submitting their data to the repositories. The Director will also be responsible for assuring that appropriate meta-data are collected and incorporated into data storage and submissions. The Director co-chairs the Advisory Committee for Clinical and Translational Science (ACCTS) Subcommittee on Biomedical Informatics and serves as the CCTS representative on the national CTSA Informatics Enterprise Committee and the NCATS National Center for Data to Health (CD2H).

Job Requirements

Master’s Degree Required; Ph.D. preferred. Emphasis in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or related fields required. 7+ years of experience processing, managing, and integrating biological datasets, required. Must have a deep understanding of fundamental concepts in genomics, statistics, and bioinformatics. Must be proficient with R and Bioconductor packages, and one or more programming languages (Python, Perl, bash). Must have excellent collaboration and communication skills, both verbal and written, ability to work effectively in a highly-collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment, and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities. Must have strong analytical skills, and strong grant writing skills to assist with CTSA renewals and supplements, as well as grants submitted by Rockefeller investigators. Must be able to demonstrate Bioinformatics team leadership skills.
