We are looking for a highly motivated, senior level bioinformatics scientist with extensive experience and interest in translational genomic research, genetic analysis of complex traits, quantitative genetics, and/or algorithm/pipeline development. This position requires experience with scientific programming, relational data systems, algorithms development, and statistical modeling. Top candidates will also have leadership experience in bioinformatics development in an industrial or clinical/pharma setting.
Responsibilities
Design and conduct analyses to improve the identification of genetic variant identification, analysis, and classification from next generation sequencing and clinical data.
Translate insight from model systems into predictors and classifiers of disease susceptibility, therapeutic response, and prognosis in clinical care.
Collaborate with scientists, and clinicians to design and perform analyses on clinical sequencing data in order to improve quality of care.
Develop algorithms used to gain insight into genetic variation clinical impact through analysis
Communicate with outside scientific teams as well as product and bioinformatics leadership.
Develop scalable and high quality analysis pipelines for clinical trials and clinical diagnostics products.
Producing new data streams that generate clinically actionable insights.
Produce high quality and detailed documentation for all projects.
Lead projects and motivate interdisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers.
Required Experience
PhD in Computational Biology, Quantitative Genetics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Genomics, Molecular Biology or related areas, or equivalent experience.
7+ years of professional experience, preferably in industry, including a leadership role
Computational skills using Python (strongly preferred), Java, C/C++ or other programming languages, databases (SQL), and big data analysis tools (e.g. Spark, BigQuery, etc,).
Experience in data/genetic analysis techniques and tools (e.g. R, Plink, Hail, etc.).
Ideal Candidates Will Possess
Experience in bioinformatics, computer science, quantitative genetics, and/or human genomics
Experience with analyzing and processing next-generation sequencing data
Experience leading projects and/or teams of scientists or software engineers in an industry or clinical setting
Experience with communicating insights and presenting concepts to a diverse audience
Demonstrated programming ability including best-practice coding processes
Experience in implementing and parallelizing pipelines in cloud computing environments
Knowledgeable in development of statistical, predictive or prognostic models & algorithms
Experience in analyzing large scale multimodal datasets and related big-data analysis tools
Proficient in utilizing large scale public or proprietary genomics and human genetics databases
Self-driven and works well in interdisciplinary teams
Track record of publications in related area
