As the Head of Services and Pharma Collaborations Bioinformatics, Molecular Lab Applications you will play a key role in growing Roche’s services business that supports key strategic initiatives in Oncology, Genetics, and Women’s Health. You will implement and manage bioinformatics operations for assays in Roche’s San Jose CLIA laboratory, and other external services labs. The assays include the Harmony NIPT assay and a growing suite of Oncology LDT’s used by pharma partners for their clinical trials. As a key leader in the pharma services program, you will collaborate closely with partner functions to shape and execute on pharma collaborations critical to Roche’s molecular lab IVD strategy.
Responsibilities

Work within multidisciplinary project teams to implement Bioinformatics pipelines for Roche’s CLIA services and pharma collaborations. Technologies supported include microarray and next generation sequencing

Serve as Bioinformatics subject matter expert for scientific, technical and operational aspects of CLIA services and pharma collaborations

Oversee Bioinformatics assay development and analytical validation including study design, data processing, analysis, presentation, and documentation of results for all services assays

Accountable for Bioinformatics pipeline development and implementation of data management lifecycle

Partner with CLIA lab colleagues to meet sample quality and turn around time goals

Analyze data to troubleshoot and resolve operational matters in CLIA laboratory. Build data analysis tools to automate troubleshooting and real time lab quality monitoring

Partner with commercial and assay development colleagues to align Bioinformatics strategy with long term Oncology & Genetics lifecycle goals

Complement existing commercial and open source methods with internally developed methods as needed to meet project objectives

Provide requirements to software and wet lab development teams to support program goals

Serve as technical consultant to external partner labs

Drive continuous process improvement to iteratively refine product development processes, product quality, and lab operations

Serve as Computational Biology representative on regulatory submissions or interactions with regulatory bodies

Mentor a team of bioinformatics data scientists and engineers; provide staff with coaching, opportunities to develop skills, provide constructive and timely feedback on performance and progress toward goals and expectations

Serve as Bioinformatics representative on the CLIA site leadership team
Qualifications
-
Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics or other quantitative field with 4 years professional experience working with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) or microarray on clinical diagnostics, or equivalent combination of education and experience

2+ years of management experience mentoring Bioinformatics scientists, data scientists and/or statisticians

Deep expertise in statistical analysis, Bioinformatics algorithms (variant calling and QC methods), pipeline engineering, and assay development

Demonstrated experience working in multi-disciplinary teams delivering highly complex Bioinformatics pipelines for LDT or IVD products

Thorough scientific understanding of cancer and women’s health diagnostics with strong ability to translate knowledge to innovative products

Ability to create and present plans, roadmaps, and data analysis results in a clear and concise manner to audiences from different professional backgrounds

Demonstrated ability to establish, communicate, and execute against scientific strategy for complex operations

Prior experience managing collaborations with external partners

Strong data analysis skills using R, Python, or other modern data analysis language
