The Robinson Lab’s team of expert biological curators, bioinformaticians, and computer scientists maintain and enhance a knowledge extraction and refinement process that delivers an essential set of biomedical data and its provenance for biomedical applications. The lab leads the development of the Human Phenotype Ontology (HPO) project; the HPO is used across the globe for computational analysis of phenotype data (i.e., clinical abnormalities) to support differential diagnostics and research.
The Postdoctoral Associate will work on projects involving HPO, related ontologies, and software frameworks designed to integrate electronic health record data including Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR). The projects will be supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), including newly funded HPO and Monarch Initiative grants.
The focus of this position will be front-end and back-end development including the implementation of novel ontology-based algorithms for the HPO and Monarch Web applications. The successful candidate will be expected to work with other team members from various disciplines including bioinformatics, developers, and scientific curators.
The ideal candidate will have experience in bioinformatics, with particular expertise in modeling data with ontologies.
- Web front-end development using frameworks such as Angular.
- Performing algorithm implementation, data visualization, and bioinformatics programming; packaging and interpreting results. Where appropriate, unit testing and software development best practices should be applied.
- Software development leveraging GitHub for version control and project coordination
- Assisting in data dissemination.
- Contributing to publications.
