We’re looking for a standout Bioinforatics Scientist for the HudsonAlpha Discovery sequencing lab in Huntsville, Alabama. The Bioinformatics Scientist contributes to our mission by taking lab-generated data and creating computational models that allow further manipulation and experimentation, enabling rapid, incremental analysis required to process large amounts of data generated in a high-throughput Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) laboratory devoted to analysis of genomics data with a focus on long and short read sequencing technologies.

The Bioinformatics Scientist will develops and employs computational tools to analyze biological data, analyzes and interprets data, such as gene or protein expression patterns, nucleotide, and protein sequence, structure, functions, pathways, and genetic interactions, utilizes existing algorithms, techniques, and statistical methodologies but also responsible for developing novel ones, develop test and support NGS data analysis tools and pipeline, ensure proper automation of data analysis, evaluate and implement state-of-the-art methodologies for NGS data analysis, build scalable cloud and HPC solutions, respect the privacy of the personal information of patients, co-workers, and all individuals with whom the Company interacts, ensure compliance with all laws and regulations applicable to the Company and its operations

This position also requires a graduate degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related field, Minimum 5 years of experience in genomic data analysis with a track record in sequencing technologies, experience with SQL databases, HPC, Unix, REST API, experience in software development best practices, proficient in Python, Shell, R, and other relevant programming language(s), Unix/Linux development environments, as well as high-performance/cluster and cloud computing, solid experience in the analysis of high-throughput DNA and RNA sequencing data, including long and short reads, in-depth knowledge of NGS genomic data analysis and bioinformatics tools (BWA, SamTools, GATK, FreeBayes, MuTect, VarScan etc.) and current data formats (e.g., VCF, BAM/SAM); deep understanding of data QC metrics
