KEGG ENZYME: 1.7.2.7

Entry
EC 1.7.2.7                  Enzyme
Name Class

Oxidoreductases;
Acting on other nitrogenous compounds as donors;
With a cytochrome as acceptor

Sysname

hydrazine:ferricytochrome-c oxidoreductase

Reaction(IUBMB)
hydrazine + H2O + 3 ferricytochrome c = nitric oxide + ammonium + 3 ferrocytochrome c [RN:R09799]
Reaction(KEGG) Substrate Product
nitric oxide [CPD:C00533];
ammonium;
ferrocytochrome c [CPD:C00126]
Comment
The enzyme, characterized from anaerobic ammonia oxidizers (anammox bacteria), is one of only two enzymes that are known to form an N-N bond (the other being EC 1.7.1.14, nitric oxide reductase [NAD(P)+, nitrous oxide-forming]). The enzyme from the bacterium Candidatus Kuenenia stuttgartiensis is heterotrimeric and contains multiple c-type cytochromes.
