About VIB and ELIXIR Belgium

VIB is an entrepreneurial non-profit research institute with a clear focus on
ground-breaking strategic basic research in life sciences and operates in
close partnership with the five universities in Flanders – Ghent University,
KU Leuven, University of Antwerp, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and Hasselt
University.

ELIXIR (https: // www. elixir-europe.org) is a European research infrastructure
that unites life-science research groups. It coordinates, integrates, and
sustains bioinformatics resources across Europe.

Job description

The VIB Bioinformatics Core is hiring an enthusiastic computational biology
trainer to expand the institutional training program and shape the data
science curriculum of VIB and ELIXIR Belgium.

Based on your experience in data science and life sciences and in
collaboration with the Training Coordinator of ELIXIR Belgium, you will
develop and organize several new training sessions, including online training
material. To successfully accomplish your program, you will scout potential
(bio)informatics trainers, guide them in setting up a successful training
session and take the final responsibility of the execution and follow-up of
training sessions. You will also have the opportunity yourself to give
training sessions, based on your expertise and interests, and explore new
methods of training, such as the development of Advanced Learning
Environments. You will continue to establish connections to international
trainers (e.g. www. elixir-europe.org/platforms/training), and work on the
visibility of the VIB Bioinformatics Core and ELIXIR Belgium, both within the
institute as externally.

VIB and ELIXIR Belgium aim to offer courses for essential computational
skills, research computing (Galaxy and nextflow workflow systems, use of the
institutional infrastructure, as well as the Cloud offering of the Flemish
Supercomputer Center), and pragmatic research data management according to
the FAIR principles.

To keep up your skills and keep in touch with this fast-evolving area of data
science and bioinformatics, part of your time will be dedicated to supporting
specific projects from the VIB research community.

You can count on administrative and communication support and the assistance
of bioinformatics trainers as colleagues to succeed. You will be employed in
the VIB Bioinformatics Core. Our institute greatly values diverse standpoints
and promotes an inclusive environment in which everyone is respected.
