Bioinformatics Scientist (Genome) in Bethesda, MD

Position Objective: Provide services as a Bioinformatics Scientist in support of the overall functions of the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Duties and Responsibilities: + Generate and optimize programs and scripts for the analysis of data; create programs and algorithms and develop computational infrastructure resources for organizing and parsing data from large and complex data 1 + Optimize and maintain best practice pipelines to perform GWAS, PheWAS and process whole genome SNPsindelsSVs; impute genome wide genotypes using large scale reference genome panels + Develop and maintain databases and datasets for GWAS, PheWAS, EHR, and other raw and analytical result data + Provide detailed documentation of custom scripts + Work on multiple projects concurrently with other laboratory members + Develop or share tools via simple websites + Write complex queries to multiple databases 2 + Perform data processing and data analysis with existing computational and statistical methods 3 + Assist in evaluating and interpreting results for validity and scientific meaning 4 + Work with staff on the development and maintenance of bioinformatics tools, scripts and pipe-lines for data 5 + Develop scripts that analyze a variety of health-related data and combine data across different orthogonal data sets, such as EHR data, environment, 1 taxonomical knowledge resources such as OMIM, human phenotype ontology, or Drug bank to aid in genomic analyses + Provide broad-based programming and analytic support for a wide variety cf bioinformatic and genomic research projects; write custom scripts to analyze public or data generated in the laboratory, + Assist researchers with running third-party software, interpret results, and summarize findings + Present analysis results at research conferences and meetings + Meet with lab members to present updates – Weekly + Work products and documents related to assisting researchers with running third-parry software and interpreting results where necessary; customizing software to curate datasets and analyzing data. – Ad-Hoc + Work products and documents related to maintaining databases of laboratory generated data, optimizing, standardizing and maintaining pipeline scripts to make data analyses accessible to non-computing research scientists. – Ad-Hoc + Work products and documents related to performing data curarion. bioinformatics analysis, data quality assurance, and curation activities for a cutting-edge genomics research laboratory. – Ad-Hoc Basic Qualifications: + Master’s degree in a science related field, Three (3) years of specialized experience plus a BA/BS degree is equivalent to a Master’s degree, Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a related field Minimum Qualifications: + Ability to multi-task and pay close attention to detail + Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills + Strong communication skills, both oral and written + Experience with Data visualization, Work with large data sets, Clinical Data Analysis, Cloud-Based Computing, Genome-wide association studies, Whole Genome Sequencing, Whole Exome Sequencing, Pipeline development, Multi-omics Analysis, Data Quality Control + Good collaborative work ethics in a group environment + Experience with SQL, R, MS Office, HTML, Javascript, Python, Linux, Bash *This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required by this position.
