The Institute of Oncology Research (IOR) in Bellinzona, Switzerland, is a rapidly evolving,
leading center for basic and translational research in oncology in Europe.
IOR is affiliated to the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) and its Faculty of Biomedical
Sciences, as well as to other leading Swiss Universities and Research Centers.
IOR is partner of the Oncology Institute of Southern Switzerland (IOSI), one of the world
referral centers for lymphomas.
lOR is institutional member of the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB).
IOR is member of Bios+ a non-profit association aiming to promote, support and coordinate
the scientific research and teaching activities of its members – www.biosplus.ch.
IOR provides excellent core facilities, highly competitive salary and supported structures,
including automated microscopy systems, FACS scan and sorting facility, next generation
sequence and animal facilities. The Institute is located in an innovative, well-equipped and
scientifically stimulating surrounding, in a new research building.
Aim of our research is to decode the mechanisms of cancer pathogenesis and develop
innovative and rational-based avenues to fight cancer. Currently, the Institute hosts seven
research groups working on lymphomas, hematopoietic malignancies, prostate and breast
cancer.
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic

MSc/PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology or related discipline.
Excellent knowledge of English, good interpersonal and communication skills are required.
The ideal candidate must possess bioinformatic experience in:
- Analysis of targeted resequencing, Whole Exon/Genome Sequencing and RNA-Seq
experiments. Knowledge of epigenomics data analysis is a plus (ATAC-seq, ChlP-seq),
functional analysis, clinical response and survival data - Develop bioinformatics tools to compile and analyze “big data”, including longitudinal
assessment of combined mutational profiles, gene expression and phosphoproteomics - Knowledge of basic machine learning for the integration of multi-omics data, assessment
of validity and prediction accuracy of tools developed - Good knowledge of R and knowledge of programming/scripting language (e.g., Perl,
Ruby, Java, Python) - Problem-solving to overcome technical challenges (including basic bash operations)
- Ability to deliver comprehensive and clear visualization of the data analysed
- Familiarity with bioinformatic databases (e.g., NCBI, UCSC, EMBL) and software
