The Department of Neuroscience, Developmental and Regenerative Biology (NDRB) in the College of Sciences at the University of Texas at San Antonio is inviting applications for a tenure track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor. The desired candidate should have a background in bioinformatics or biostatistics with an emphasis on omics-level data, machine learning or AI approaches. Competitive recruitment packages, state-of-the-art core facilities, and modern laboratory space are available. NDRB has two vibrant PhD programs in Cell and Molecular Biology and Neuroscience and an atmosphere of collegiality and collaboration. Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and the ability to direct an independently funded research program. The successful candidate will be required to teach courses in their field of expertise within or outside the department and must demonstrate their ability to work and be sensitive to the educational needs of diverse urban populations and support the University’s commitment to thrive as a Hispanic Serving Institution and a model for student success.
The Department of Neuroscience, Developmental and Regenerative Biology (NDRB) in the College of Sciences at the University of Texas at San Antonio is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with experience in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computational biology, or related discipline with a commitment to multicultural education, diversity, and inclusion. We invite applications from qualified candidates with expertise in omics-level data, machine learning and algorithm development to analyze next-generation sequencing data, integrated analysis of high-dimensional datasets, and deep learning models, to identify new disease genes and therapeutic targets for human diseases. NDRB’s research programs cover diverse areas of development, stem cells, regenerative medicine, genomics/epigenomics, fertility/infertility, neuroscience, brain health, biotechnology, and military health. Collaboration with faculty in NDRB and other departments, and teaching and mentoring of students in statistical and computational methods is also required. Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and the ability to direct an independently funded research program. Candidates who have not completed their doctoral dissertations (ABDs) will not be considered. The successful candidate will be required to teach courses in their field of expertise within or outside the department and must demonstrate their ability to work and be sensitive to the educational needs of diverse urban populations and support the University’s commitment to thrive as a Hispanic Serving Institution and a model for student success.
Highlights of the NDRB research environment:
• State-of-the art core facilities for cell image analysis, biochemical signaling, genomics, epigenomics, proteomics, and pluripotent stem cell derivation and gene editing are available.
• The UTSA Research Computing Support Group (RSGC) provides access to high-performance computing (HPC) architecture for researchers on campus and facilitates use of the Texas Advanced Computing Center. RCSG recently commissioned a new HPC cluster, Arc, which can deliver up to 387 TFLOPs of peak performance on 156 compute/GPU nodes (6032 total cores across all nodes) and extensive space (1.2 PB total capacity).
• The newly established Institute of Regenerative Medicine is a joint initiative from the UTSA Colleges of Engineering and Sciences in conjunction with multiple entities throughout the San Antonio community combining academic, clinical, military, and biotechnological expertise to address grand challenges in regenerative medicine.
• The Brain Health Consortium (BHC) was established in 2019 as a university level center/institute with over 40 participating scientists working together to advance our basic understanding of the brain. The BHC promotes and supports cutting-edge, transdisciplinary, and collaborative research and connects basic and translational research.
• The Neurosciences Institute within the College of Sciences is a campus-wide community of researchers at UTSA engaged in discovering the neural bases of experience, behavior, and disease. There are training programs available to graduate and undergraduate students, and resources, events and activities that support scientific rigor in our neuroscience research community.
• The College of Sciences supports a diverse academic and research environment with 9 departments (three are newly restructured), 40-degree programs, 280+ faculty, and 4900+ students. Areas of focus include infectious diseases, nanotechnology, cybersecurity, neurological diseases, AI/machine learning, precision therapeutics, and smart materials. 51% of students are Hispanic and 41% are first generation students.
