CD Genomics Offers NGS Services for Mitochondrial Research

New York, USA – November 26, 2021 – CD Genomics is one of the top genomics service providers in genomic research, dedicated to providing reliable services to pharmaceutical and biotech companies as well as academia and government agencies. With its high-throughput sequencing platforms, CD Genomics can provide solutions for a variety of research scenarios, such as whole-exome sequencing, microbial sequencing, and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequencing.

Mitochondria are the energy factories of cells and have their own genetic material and genetic system. For instance, human mitochondrial genomic DNA (mtDNA) is a double-stranded closed circular DNA molecule with a length of 16,569 bp, including 37 genes. Mitochondrial diseases are a type of maternal genetic disease, mostly due to mtDNA mutations that cause mitochondrial dysfunction, which in turn leads to a series of serious diseases. In addition, mitochondria are relatively conservative, so they are often used in evolution analysis and classification studies of most eukaryotes.

Researchers from Stanford University studied and presented the mitochondrial genome of an endangered Chagos archipelago fish, Carcharhinus alimarginatus. With this approach, they studied the distribution and abundance of C. alimarginatus to promote urgent monitoring and conservation of the species. “CD Genomics assisted with mtDNA sequencing using the Illumina sequencing platform. We found that the mitochondrial genome of C. albimarginatus was 16,706 bp in length and consisted of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes, a replication origin, and a D-loop region. GC content was at 38.7% and the control region was 1,065 bp in length. We expect that mitogenomes presented here will aid the development of molecular assays for species distribution studies. Overall, these studies will promote effective conservation of marine ecosystems in British Indian Ocean Territory.”

“The main technical route of mitochondrial sequencing falls into genomic DNA extraction, library construction, mtDNA capture, computer sequencing, and data analysis,” said the Chief Scientist of CD Genomics. “Our capture technology has the characteristics of sensitivity and efficiency, which can purify mtDNA to the maximum and make sequencing results more accurate. In addition, we provide a wealth of data analysis services, from basic information analysis (e.g., data quality control, sequence comparison, SNP/InDel detection) to advanced bioinformatics analysis (e.g., mutation screening, association analysis, gene significance analysis).” He continued, “We provide two routes of mitochondrial capture solutions, liquid-based probe hybridization capture and multiplex PCR amplification, to capture mtDNA. Combined Illumina high-throughput sequencing with bioinformatics analysis, we provide mitochondrial genome analysis solutions for all species.”

“Our philosophy is to accelerate the development of the biotechnology industry towards breakthrough discoveries. And our goal is to bring the most reliable genome sequencing technology to our customers. For many years, CD Genomics has been committed to providing comprehensive sequencing and analysis services to research institutions and biotechnology companies,” Said the Marketing Manager of CD Genomics.
