Bioinformatics Software Engineer – Canton

Abveris applies advanced immunization methods combined with B cell screening and hybridoma-based antibody discovery technologies to provide comprehensive gene-to-antibody discovery services. Abveris is developing the next generation of biologics, cell therapies, vaccines, and diagnostics in partnership with global leaders in biopharma.

We are seeking a motivated individual to collaboratively develop software systems and pipelines for automated processing and analysis to support our scientists and collaborators involved in discovery and development of biologics. To meet the evolving needs of the organization, you will contribute to software solutions that transform raw data from multiple technologies and machines to enable scientists to derive scientific insights more quickly while working with cross-functional project teams. Ideal candidates will be curious, enjoy learning new tools, techniques, and technologies relevant to software engineering and bioinformatics along with a passion to develop clean, maintainable code considering both the short-term and long-term impact.

 

Job responsibilities to include:

  • Contribute to development, optimization & automation of bioinformatics pipelines and data engineering workflows
  • Follow Software Engineering standard methodologies with strong testing and release processes
  • Collaborate and interact with scientists to understand the problem domain and find opportunities to accelerate their work
  • Contribute to data mining and visualization applications
  • Stay current with new technologies and standard methodologies related to bioinformatics pipeline development, software development and data visualization
  • Concurrently execute multiple projects requiring hands-on activities, data analysis, report generation and preparation of deliverables
  • Record and communicate experimental details, draft reports, and deliver data with a high level of integrity and ethics

 

Candidate qualifications:

  • S./M.S. in Computer Science or Bioinformatics, with 2-4 years of related professional experience
  • Experience with programming. Familiar with Python, R, or other data-oriented programming languages
  • Experience with Pandas, Data visualization (using Python or R) and Open source coding platforms (Linux, Github)
  • Experience in data management
  • Familiar with database schema including RDBMS (e.g., MySQL) and NO-SQL (e.g., MongoDB)
  • Experience with problem-solving and troubleshooting issues with public online portal for bioinformatics
  • Experience tracking and documenting notable events for research studies as they might pertain to study outcomes
  • Ability to work independently, but also collaborate and effectively communicate within and across departmental teams
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Capable of planning, organizing, and writing presentations for professional audiences
  • Highly organized, detail oriented and able to operate in a fast-paced and growing environment
