Lee Placito Fellowship in Bioinformatics

Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences, Old Road Campus Research Building, Headington, Oxford

Grade 7: £33,309 – £40,927 per annum

Contract type: Fixed term for 3 years

Hours: Full-time

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic bioinformatician who has an interest in the intersection of tumour evolution and stem cell biology. Our group aims to understand the functional consequences of tumour heterogeneity on cellular hierarchies. We use mainly primary human tissue and gene engineering tools to dissect the effects of somatic mutation burden on cell identity during colorectal cancer development. Specifically, we are interested in (a) the functional significance of driver mutations on normal colonic epithelia, (b) how genetic clones interact during adenoma development and also (c) the three-way interaction between epithelia, stroma and immune components in invasive adenocarcinoma. We are a cosmopolitan, mixed group of eight clinical and non-clinical scientists. You will be based in Buczacki Laboratory, Old Road Campus Research Building but there may be the opportunity for occasional remote working.

Your work will be to assist in the day-to-day analysis of ‘omics data generated by ongoing projects in the Buczacki laboratory and in collaboration with other groups in the NDS and wider cancer field in Oxford. Individual research projects would be expected to be developed with the post holder following appointment. This post is generously funded by a donation from the Lee Placito Medical Fund.

About you

You should have completed a doctoral level degree in a relevant discipline. Expertise in the analysis of bulk RNAseq data is essential (alignment, normalisation and the generation of differentially expressed gene lists). Similar expertise in scRNAseq, WES/WGS or ATACseq would be advantageous. An understanding of experimental design and/or modelling would also be beneficial.

This full-time post is available immediately and is fixed-term for three years in the first instance. We would be willing to consider applications for part-time hours.
