Paper overview

 

On November 5th, 2021, Chen Ming/Xu Bin of Zhongda Hospital Southeast University, and Peng Bo/Li Wei of Shanghai Tenth People’s Hospital affiliated to Tongji University jointly published online a research paper entitled “ciRS-7 is a prognostic biomarker and potential genetherapy target for renal cell carcinoma” in Molecular Cancer. The study has found that ciRS-7 is highly expressed in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) tumor tissues and cell lines, and can be used as a prognostic biomarker. It is further confirmed that ciRS-7 acts as the “ceRNA” of miR-139-3p, which prevents TAGLN from degrading and promotes RCC cell proliferation and migration through PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. In addition, the study also developed a targeted nanocomplex — PBAE/Si-ciRS-7, which can significantly inhibit RCC tumor growth and metastasis in vivo. The drug development of this nanocomplex may be a promising gene therapy strategy for RCC, which is very practical for clinical treatment of tumors.
