mVIRs is a command line tool that uses high-throughput sequencing data from cultured or natural communities of bacteria to locate inducible prophages, including novel ones. It identifies candidate prophages by detecting outward-oriented paired-end reads with unusually large insert sizes, and their exact genomic location by extracting the coordinates of partially aligned reads. The original concept, development and evaluation of the method is described in Zünd et al., Microbiome, 2021.
