  • Base Salary Level A $97,043 p.a. – $100,717 p.a. + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on a project on Revealing soil viral diversity in Australia. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Professor Budiman Minasny.

The successful candidate will take a leading role as a postdoctoral in the field of soil and microbial diversity. You will characterise soil virus diversity and functions across Australia and understand the mechanisms behind coupled soil diversity and microbial biodiversity as affected by land use.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • undertake research in surveying soil microbial diversity
  • publish research papers
  • demonstrate research excellence
  • assist with grant writing and publishing original work
  • support teaching activities and the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES) brings together researchers in the life, earth, and environmental sciences to improve teaching and build new infrastructure to support and enhance capacity in research and teaching. It is a large School divided into three Research and Teaching Themes.

About you

  • a PhD (or near completion) in soil science or microbial ecology
  • a strong background and skills in bioinformatics, pedometrics and digital soil mapping demonstrated ability to conduct research/scholarly activities under limited supervision
  • the ability and a willingness to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams to contribute to long-term research goals
  • excellent communication (written and verbal), organisational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • a strong track record of publishing their research.
  • proven fieldwork experience.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
