The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world aimed to explore the secrets of life. The EMBL International Centre for Advanced Training (EICAT) coordinates and organises all aspects of internal and external training at EMBL. EICAT External Training is responsible for the EMBL Course and Conference Programme and the Scientific Visitor Programme, as well as for all further aspects

You have
As our ideal candidate, you have have a PhD degree in the life-sciences with at least 2 years of postdoctoral research experience. A broad interdisciplinary scientific interest and research background in molecular biology is required.
The successful candidate also has:

  • A well-developed network of scientific contacts with experience of participating in advanced scientific training as an organiser or co-organiser and education and/or instructional design.
  • A thorough understanding of the principles behind (and benefits of) scientific collaboration and joint projects, including short- and long-term scientific visits and internships.
  • A genuine scientific interest and a strong motivation for the implementation of project opportunities and benefits for visiting scientists and training activities.

The candidate should have demonstrated effective organisational skills and the ability to handle work in an efficient and timely manner across a broad range of functions. Effective multi-tasking and the ability to work with tight deadlines are also required.
Excellent presentation skills are essential.
Outstanding interpersonal skills, as well as creativity and collaborative team spirit are required. The ability to anticipate needs and maintain excellent working relationship with people, also from the corporate environment is essential.
An excellent command of written and spoken English is required.
A high level of computer literacy is required for this position. Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft or Open Office software, as well as the Adobe Software Suite are expected.

You might also have

  • Additional qualifications in the area of (scientific) management and/or scientific training would be beneficial.
  • You might have experience in the application for and participation in multi-partnered grants.
  • Experience and demonstrated independence in the organisational and financial management of projects in the scientific context would be highly beneficial.
  • Additional skills in other European languages (e.g. German) would be highly beneficial.
