Postdoctoral Researcher, Dame Roma Mitchell Cancer Research Laboratories job with UNIVERSITY OF ADELAIDE

(Level A) $72,829 to $97,927 and (Level B) $102,952 to $121,779 per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation applies.

Fixed term full time position available for 2 years.

Located at the Adelaide Medical School, the Dame Roma Mitchell Cancer Research Laboratories (DRMCRL) led by Professor Wayne Tilley, is an international, multidisciplinary collaborative research program investigating mechanistic and therapeutic aspects of sex hormone receptor action in hormone-dependent breast and prostate cancers.

We are seeking an outstanding early career post-doctoral scientist to drive a research program building on our recent advances in exploiting androgen receptor agonists to inhibit estrogen receptor positive breast cancer growth.

The successful applicant will hold a PhD in cancer biology/medicine, ideally in breast cancer, with knowledge of sex hormone receptor signalling. The postdoctoral scientist will work closely with DRMCRL investigators and their national and international collaborative partners and will also support training and supervision of DRMCRL higher degree by research students.

To be successful you will need:

  • PhD in cancer biology or medicine.
  • Excellent molecular biology skills or experience in functional genomics (eg ChIPseq, RNA-seq/scRNA-seq, ATAC-seq, CRISPR), Hi-C seq and spatial transcriptomics. 
  • Proven experience in cell culture techniques and pre-clinical models (eg organoids, animal models; PDXs) of human disease.
  • Highly motivated and experienced in working collaboratively with biomedical and clinical researchers and demonstrated capability to learn quickly and develop new methods.
  • High level of interpersonal, communication and organisational skills and an ability to manage competing demands and meet project timelines.

To be considered at Level B, the applicant would also need:

  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation of successful proposal submissions to external funding bodies.
  • A track record of presentations and publications that demonstrates a commitment to excellence in research outcomes.
  • Experience in supervising higher degree by research students.
  • Exemplary personal qualities of integrity, energy, tenacity and judgement.
