The Laboratory of Experimental Gastroenterology at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Brussels, Belgium, is recruiting a Postdoc in Bioinformatics.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Our research focuses on discovering chronic liver disease’s environmental and genetic determinants, particularly on the development of liver cancer and cirrhosis-related complications. We mainly utilize genomics and single-cell transcriptomics data. The successful applicant will take a lead role in this setting and work on a large-scale EU-funded project. More specifically, the aim will be to identify novel human genetic variations and other environmental risk factors predisposing to hepatocellular carcinoma development.

Duration: 1 year full-time with a possibility for prolongation of up to 5 years.

Starting date: As soon as possible till a suitable candidate is found.

ABOUT US

The ULB has a reputation for excellence in basic and applied biomedical research and is an active member of the European Research Area www.ulb.be/en/ulb-homepage. The ULB is involved in almost 80 EU-funded projects. The Laboratory of Experimental Gastroenterology is a translational research team within the Gastroenterology, Hepatopancreatology, and Digestive Oncology Department of the Hôpital Universitaire de Bruxelles, Brussels, Belgium www.hubruxelles.be/en. The group, led by Prof. Eric Trépo, uses genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and single-cell genomics to identify risk factors, better understand the pathophysiology of chronic liver diseases and pinpoint potential therapeutic targets [1-3].

  • Expertise in analyzing single-cell datasets (transcriptomics, metabolomics, …).
  • Training and/or expertise with whole exome/genome sequencing is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Enthusiasm to work in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative environment.
  • Proficient written and spoken English language skills.

WE OFFER

  • A highly motivated multidisciplinary research team including biologists, bioinformaticians, and clinicians and the possibility to participate in international collaborations.
