The Centre harnesses the capacity of the Australian National Phenome Centre to generate high throughput, deep phenotypic profiles of biological samples that define the metabolic status of an individual and which will contribute understanding of disease risk and aetiology.

The Role

This is a specialist role that provides academic and research leadership in themetabolicphenotypingand bioinformatics. The successful candidate will have strong track record of academic excellence with impact in one or more of the following areas of clinical and biomedical research: metabolic phenotyping specializing in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Mass Spectrometry data, computational modelling, chemometrics and data science.

The Senior Lecturer will apply wet laboratory methodologies and generate new knowledge by integrating high-fidelity multi-Omic data sets generated by the Australian National Phenome Centre. They will lead the development of new bioinformatic tools to deliver high impact research as well ascontributing to university postgraduate supervision and teaching activities.

What You’ll Bring To This Role

  • A PhD specializing in computational biology, computer science, biochemistry, chemometricsor bioinformatics
  • Strong background in the application of programming languages such as R, Python, MATLAB or JavaScript to analyse and manage large data sets
  • Experience in the generation of metabolic and spectroscopic data by Mass Spectrometry and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy for the extraction for the extraction of biomarkers or other clinically translational information
  • The ability to answer fundamental questions in biomedical research and human diseases
  • Experience in the supervision of post-graduate students
