The research group lIMMUNOMOD at the Institute of Molecular Virology at the University Medical Center in Ulm, Germany is seeking a highly motivated and interdisciplinary Postdoc with a strong interest in Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics to study how human pathogenic viruses interact with the host and each other. The successful candidate will work on exciting projects using cutting-edge technologies including next-generation sequencing, single-cell technologies, machine learning, work with human pathogenic viruses, and advanced light microscopy.

Location: University Medical Center, Ulm, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification: PhD in Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics or a related field; Strong interest and experience in Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics; Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, R); Experience with next generation sequencing and single cell technologies; Excellent communication and teamwork skills; Fluency in English (written and spoken).

Salary and benefits are given according to the German TVL system.

Job Description: The selected candidate will join a highly motivated interdisciplinary research team within a stimulating, diverse, and international environment. The research group focuses on studying human pathogenic viruses’ interactions with the host and each other. The successful candidate will work on identifying novel patterns of immune activation using machine learning (Pattern Recognition Receptors) and defining the interplay between multiple viral pathogens co-infecting one host. The postdoc will have the opportunity to work with highly relevant, basic but application-focused research on human pathogens, including SARS-CoV-2, HIV-1, and influenza A virus.

The postdoc will be responsible for conducting experiments, data analysis, and manuscript preparation. The successful candidate will work with human pathogenic viruses and advanced light microscopy, and experience with next-generation sequencing and single-cell technologies is required. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and R is necessary. The candidate must have excellent communication and teamwork skills and fluency in English (written and spoken).
