Postdoctoral Fellow – Bioinformatics & Comp Biology | Houston, TX

The Department of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, USA, is seeking a postdoctoral fellow. The individual will work on cutting edge cancer related research projects at the top ranked cancer hospital in the US. The work involves computational analysis, and no wet lab experience is required. The candidate must be proficient in programming and writing scientific articles. We analyze data from a multitude of “omics” platforms, including genomics, transcriptomics, and epigenomics, with special emphasis on proteomics and metabolomics. The work is not limited to one cancer type but spans multiple cancers and involves a diverse range of analyses. We are especially involved in the prestigious projects of NCI’s Center for Cancer Genomics (CCG), which includes collaborations with other top national institutions. Previously, we worked on the TCGA project. The position promises participation in such high-profile ventures.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The position is centered on dry lab bioinformatics research and involves large-scale analysis of cancer data with a particular focus on proteomics and metabolomics data. It also includes quality control of omics data generated by others. The types of analyses performed are diverse and may include AI, clustering, dimensionality reduction, visualizations, pathway analysis, feature selection, and batch effects analysis, among others. Candidates may expect to gain proficiency in those skills at the conclusion of the training, as well as authorships on multiple papers.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must be proficient in programming in at least one language, such as R, Matlab, or Java/Java Script. R is preferred. Basic biology and statistics knowledge are expected, but an advanced understanding of cancer biology is not required. A PhD in any of the basic sciences will be satisfactory. We offer a highly competitive salary plus benefits.
