NIRF Ranking 2023: IIT Guwahati Maintained 7th Rank in ‘Engineering’ Category

NEW DELHI: In the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati has successfully maintained its status and this year placed seventh in the engineering category. This year, IIT Guwahati placed ninth in both the “Overall” and the “Research” categories.

Taking on Twitter, IIT Guwahati informed that, “@IITGuwahati

retains 7th position in the Engineering Category and ranks 9th in Overall and Research Categories in the #NIRF2023 Rankings announced by Hon’ble MoS, @EduMinOfIndia

On the other hand, Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Minister of State for Education and External Affairs, Government of India announced that, “For assessing the calibre of education offered by Higher Education Institutions, ranking and accreditation are essential. I am happy to see that since the NIRF Ranking’s launch in 2015, it has changed for the better.”

Parameswar K. Iyer, Officiating Director, IIT Guwahati congratulated the instiutute and said, “According to NEP 2020, IIT Guwahati offers technical education with a multidisciplinary mandate that gives its students opportunity for holistic growth. The outcomes clearly demonstrate the professor and student contributions to this accomplishment.”

On the other hand, in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2023 for the global SDG 7 (Affordable and clean energy), Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati achieved 6th position. As required by the United Nations, these rankings are global performance tables that evaluate universities in relation to the SDGs.

IIT guwahati currently offers BTech, BDes, MA, MDes, MTech, MSc, MBA, and PhD programmes in eleven departments, nine multidisciplinary academic centres, and five schools spanning all the major engineering, scientific, healthcare, management, and humanities areas. Currently, the institute accommodates more than 8,000 students and 435 staff members on a residential campus.

IIT Guwahati is advancing important scientific research initiatives in, among other cutting-edge fields, genomics, developmental biology, nanotechnology, health care and bioinformatics, flexible electronics, advanced functional materials, sustainable polymers, rural technologies, disaster resilience and risk reduction, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and water resources and management.
