Position Summary
Gritstone Bio in Cambridge, MA is seeking Senior Bioinformatics Engineer(s) to conduct research using bioinformatics theory and methods.
Responsibilities
Individuals will apply advanced theoretical knowledge of Bioinformatic engineering principles and concepts, as well as experience with NGS bioinformatics workflow to perform the following duties:
- Lead the bioinformatics engineering and infrastructure efforts in the maintenance and future development of processing platform of clinical NGS data.
- As part of the Bioinformatics and Data Science team, work closely with Data and Lab Scientists to establish innovative data pipelines and workflows.
- Develop, test, and support bioinformatics data analysis tools and pipelines for sequencing data (NGS) at scale.
- Develop research grade algorithms into production-level software.
- Maintain production validation and documentation for compliance and supportability of all bioinformatics processes in production environment.
- Automate complex data analysis processes.
- Communicate findings to stakeholders.
Minimum Education/Experience
- Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, or a related field or any related field of study, plus at least three (3) years of experience in the job offered or in a bioinformatics pipeline or algorithm development position(s).
- Qualified applicants must also have demonstrable proficiency, skill, experience, and knowledge with the following:
- Statistical/algorithmic understanding of somatic NGS-based variant calling
- Standard NGS bioinformatics workflow
- Software engineering to include writing and documenting production-level code
- Python
- Source control in a development, testing, and production environment
- AWS cloud-based services

Gritstone bio anticipates that the hourly rate for the Senior Bioinformatics Engineer position could range between $126,000 – $180,000. Pay rates will depend, in part, on the successful candidate’s credentials for the role, including education, qualifications, and type as well as length of experience. Any offered salary is also based on internal equity, internal position salary ranges, and market data. Gritstone is a multistate employer and the salary offered will be market competitive. At Gritstone, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
